     Maryland Tall Clock

Next

This case was a diamond in the rough. I bought it from a gentleman who had been storing it in his barn for many years. Probably made in central or western Maryland, it has very well executed bellflowers and swirl rosettes on the hood and other fine inlay on the waist and base sections. The tops of the scrolls had been nipped off, the base was coming apart and, of course, the feet – always the first thing to go when a case is shortened – were gone. This is also another good example of how the natural warm, rich color of old cherrywood emerges when it is properly refinished.
