Recreation of Missing Hood
This was a project that I thought I might tackle someday when I had the time. When the pandemic struck and we were all in quarantine it seemed like the perfect opportunity to do it.
The lower part of the case needed only minor repairs. The brass dial movement is appropriate to the period, c. 1775. I designed and recreated the scrolls, finials and rosettes using patterns that I had taken from the early Chippendale clock cases of Jacob Herwick, a Carlisle PA clockmaker. I was able to find a figured piece of walnut for the scrollboard that complimented the figure at the top of the waist door.
